Poorly planned Doctor visit

At the end of the flight home from Washington this old man sitting behind us told me, "I saw you in the airport and thought to myself, I sure hope I do not have to sit by them."  He then proceeded to tell me, "you should get a mom of the year award.  I did not mind sitting by you at all.  I watched your kids and they did great!"  That was a lovely compliment, but I certainly did not deserve mom of the year the next morning.

For some reason I scheduled doctor appoints at 8:00 in the morning the day after traveling.  Not only was it almost midnight when we finally got the kids in bed, but we were all messed up from the three hour time difference.  So Monday morning when my alarm went off at 7:00 it felt like 4:00am.  I waited until the very last minute to wake the girls up.  Natalia still had on the same clothes from the day before so I just had her get in the car.  Estelle had a super wet diaper, but I knew she would be mad and hungry if I changed her so I just transferred her to the carseat half asleep and figured I had to take all her clothes off at the doctor anyway so I may as well wait.  I fed the kids in the car and we made it on time: what felt like 5:00am to us.

After the doctor we came home and ate a real breakfast and watched a movie because we were all too tired to do anything else.

Natalia had her 4 year check up.  She is 3 feet, 4 3/4 inches which puts her in the 68th percentile for height.  She is 38 pounds which puts her in the 71st percentile for weight.  She was nice and healthy, but not happy about getting shots.

Estelle had her two month check up.  She is also nice and healthy. She is 23 1/4 inches tall which puts her in the 86th percentile and she weighs 12 pounds 15 ounces which puts her in the 75th percentile.

Leah's House

We drove to Leah's house Tuesday night.  The girl's slept a little on the way there, but were ready for bed when we got to Leah's.  It was fun seeing Leah's new house.  Joe is doing a really nice job fixing it up.  It is a nice house and they have already done so much to make it even nicer.  It really is looking great.  Monday morning we headed to the Portland Zoo.  All the kids had a great time.  Both my girls really wanted to see tigers; they have been a little obsessed with tigers since we went to the circus.

This picture of Romona walking to Leah cracks me up because Leah has crazy zombie eyes.

It was such a perfect day and walking around the zoo was so nice.  The highlight was seeing the baby elephant.  Leah and I really enjoyed it and so did the kids.  My kids have not stopped talking about the baby elephant and how cute she was.  They also have not stopped talking about he big elephant that in my kids words, "pooped and peed soooo much" right in front of us.   It really was impressive; even I was oddly entertained by it.

We watched a bird show while we ate lunch.  All the kids crashed in the car on the way home; they were so tired.

We spent the rest of the afternoon at the park and playing in the back yard.  It is so fun that Leah's kids are all the same ages as my kids.  I wish that we lived closer so they could play together all the time.  Natalia had a terrible time sleeping that night because it was the night before independence day and lots of people did fireworks early and she was scared.  I felt really bad for her, but eventually we got her to sleep.

The next morning we headed to the airport.  It was so fun seeing everyone and spending a little time at each of my sibling's homes.  It was nice ending at Leah's house because we flew home from Portland.  It was so nice that my parents let us commandeer their car and my mom drove us around so we could see everyone.  My kids did really well on the plane again even though we had a longer traveling day this time.  We flew into DC just in time to see the fireworks from above.  It was crazy late by time we got home.

We had a great vacation.  It was nice to see Hector again.  The girls were too tired to appreciate him that night, but they sure enjoyed having their dad again over the weekend.

Anna's House

Monday morning we left for Anna's house.  My mom came with us this time because we would not be returning to my parents' house.  It took us four hours to get to her house and Sienna and Estelle screamed at the top of their lungs for the last fifteen minutes of the drive, but we were so close, we could not stop.  They were all smiles when we got there though.  It was over 100 degrees the two days we were there so we got some good use out of the swimsuits and enjoyed to great Yakima fresh fruit.

The girls loved the trampoline.  Natalia and Lydia jumped together, but Sienna only liked it when she could jump by herself.  I am not sure that what either of them were doing on the trampoline could be classified as jumping but they sure had fun run around and falling over.

My girls had a great time playing with Anna's kids.  Natalia could not wait to see Katie and Nicole again and Sienna kept talking about "Hay" and Lydia.  Hailey was like a little babysitter.  She held and feed the baby about any chance she got and Estelle just loved her for it.

We had homemade ice cream cones Monday night and Tuesday morning the Kyle and Marc left for a camp out so we had a girls only day.

The kids rode bikes out front and Sienna and Lydia were so funny together.  Lydia is a year older than Sienna but they are about the same size.  Lydia is really good at riding her bike, but Sienna still needs a little help and Lydia looked so cute being the one to help her along.  Being the youngest of five, I think she liked having someone that needed her help.

We watched movies and did crafts and enjoyed each other's company.  I really enjoyed seeing their new house.  It is a great house and I can tell that their family will be really happy there.  It was so fun to spend time with Anna's family.  My kids really did not know Anna's kids until this year and I loved seeing them together.  Natalia is still talking about how much she likes Katie and Nicole.

Dan, Heather, and Ridge

We left Rachel's house Friday evening and returned to my parents.  My girls stayed up to until almost 10pm playing with my cousin's kids and then we spent more time with them in the morning.  It was fun getting to know my cousin Amanda and her family Saturday morning.

We spent the rest of the day playing with Heather and Ridge.  Natalia and Ridge play so well together.  They do not talk a lot, but they seem so content to be in each other's company.

Heather and Dan watched my girls that evening so I could get away for a couple hours with my friend Kathleen.  She is getting married this month and I am so happy for her.  I do not really keep in touch with many people, but I love seeing Kathleen each year when I go home.

Sunday after church we spent more time with Great Grandma and Dan's family.

Grandpa let us try out his new boat.  It is a cross between a canoe and a kayak.  I did not think Sienna would want to go, but she was super sad when Ridge and Natalia left without her, so we found a seat for her and all the kids loved the boat.

I was so glad that we had another weekend in Shelton so that we could spend more time with Dan Heather and Ridge.  I only wish that we had more time to play with them.  I can tell that Natalia and Ridge would be great friends.  We just love Dan and Heather.  Heather was so great with my kids.  Sienna decided that Heather could be her buddy the first day of Grandpa camp.

My girls were so happy at Grandma's house.  Natalia loved having so much to explore and Sienna loved the attention from Grandma and Grandpa.  Estelle got to sleep in this special bed that has been passed down for several generations on my mothers side.  It was hand carved and my great great grandmother slept in it.

Rachel's House

Tuesday Morning we left for Rachel's house.  The weather was not the best so we were cooped up inside more than the kids would have liked and this resulted in Rachel getting the worst of me and my girls.  Regardless of my restless children, Sienna being a little sick and me being a little frazzled, we still had a great time and we were so happy we could spend time with Rachel and her family.

We played dress ups while we were there.  Sienna decided she really liked this Captain America helmet; she literally wore it for hours.

Rachel's kids were so cute with Estelle.  Adele and Spencer were practically fighting over who got to hold her.  Adele kept bringing blankets and she gave me lots of good parenting advice.  I loved watching Estelle with her big cousins.

Sienna decided that she just loved Garret and Garret was soooo nice to her.  They played together, he helped her with toys, gave her piggy-back rides.  They were very cute together.  Sienna was even kind enough to pee on him a little (not sure this was Garret's favorite moment, but he handled it like a true gentleman). Sienna and Titus were little frienemies.  I am happy to report that Sienna's behavior improved greatly after this week.

We spent time playing at the house, we went to the library and the park and we got to visit our favorite dentist.

Natalia burst into tears anytime we mentioned going to see the dentist.  I am not sure what she was so afraid of as she had never been to the dentist before and our dentist is Uncle Tyler.  Somehow a promise of a pack of gum was the only way to calm her fears.  She did fairly well at the dentist.  Maybe next year we will actually progress to a cleaning without a flip out.  Natalia got her pack of gum and was very proud.  She slept with it at night and carried it in her pocket during the day.

Sienna loved that the chair went up and down and she loved it so much she sat on my lap while they took care of me.

Things did warm up the last day with Rachel so we had fun playing silly games outside.  I am so glad that we could spend time with Rachel's family.  I just love her kids.  They are so fun and engaging.  I loved spending time with Rachel and Tyler as well.  Rachel and I got for a girls' night and Tyler was great to watch all 7 kids.
